so in all honesty, is this game worth getting? i am horrible at racing games but i still love to play them. NFSU1 was cool, but i had to use gameshark to unlock stuff (since i suck at these types of games) and i haven't played NFSU2 yet. Forza looks good and i love my xbox, but recently my ps2 has been neglected for halo2. honest opinions please.

No, GT4 isn't worth it for you. If you had a hard time with NFSU1, you should probably stick to games with Barney or the Teletubbies in them. maybe a little Blue's Clues to mix it up.

the difference between GT's line and the NFSU line is a whole 'nother level of realism, and physics.
No blazing corners at 140 and ebrakin' it through, etc... trailbraking, apex selection, and viable course selection are all important aspects to master, if you wish to really accel at this game. There is no way to really play this game well if you consider the gas and brake as a digital control, as it often is in NFSU (either you floor it, or slam the brakes).. GT's line of games require finesse, and control of both steering (no slamming either direction) and gas/brake. Momentum based physics, and car control are the key in this game, and you aren't going to pass someone on a straight away (usually.. there are RARE occasions) You beat people in this game by picking the better line, sticking it right, and double -takes through corners... smooth and easy, not blaze of glory racing..

Gran Turismo is a "racing simlator"; meaning its physics are extremely realistic...the exact opposite of NFSU. If you had a hard time with NFSU, don't waste your money on GT4. But, if you want a challenge, go out and buy GT3 for $8.99 on the used rack at the store. See if you like it, if you do, definately buy GT4.

Wanna race? I play in that manner and I've won a lot of tournements and online time trial series back when granturismo.com was still up and operating. I agree that this game takes a lot of finess, but the whole digital & analog argument can go eitherway because it really boils down to your particular playing style and how long you've been doing it. -Mark

I often play with the controls set to straight digital, and if you set the Replay to show you button presses you can see that the "Perfect" replays are often shown using the exact same method.
You can use either with equal skill if you've got enough practice at it. It's just a different method of driving.

While I will not argue that YOU aren't good playing that style... and I won't get into a p!ssing match (because that would be stupid..) I will ask this: Have you tried COMPLETELY relearning the game and your style by easing into the turns/gas, etc? I don't just mean playing a round and saying "screw it, too hard"... I mean REALLY trying to relearn the driving style?
I have, and though it took me almost a MONTH to get good, again, I was then able to consistently repeat performances, and improved on my BEST times by anywhere from 12 to 15%, regardless of track... (even the oval track on GT3..)
I was VERY good at that game while driving like you say you do... but I cannot say that the style in GENERAL is better, as I am completely on the opposite end of the spectrum for how I feel. (mind you: I didn't feel like that, beforehand...)
Once again, I am not saying you aren't good.. or for that matter that you aren't even better than I am (your driving style being different than mine, even... ) I am merely saying that my belief is that if you were to drive the NEW way (by new I mean the way I was referring to) then you would likely see any improvement on YOUR best times as well..
