In a way, you might say that the SVT already has a mild port and polish job. That is sort of what the extrude hone process does, without making the surface too smooth.

There is more art than science to porting. Things that work on one engine design may not work on others. It is largly a trial and error process. If you are an amatuer, it is best to stick with matching ports to gaskets and only very mild polishing and perhaps the very lightest of work in the valve bowls and multiple valve seat angles.

Leo Capaldi gained 123HP at the crank with the following mods

No Emissions (none whatsoever)
No secondaries
Full port and polish done on both intake manifolds
(upper intake was cut in half lenght wise, ported then rewelded - lower intake siamesed to match new upper ports)
Full port and polish done on heads
Much higher fuel pressure and larger injectors
His ECU was also flashed to accomodate the new air and fuel

mind you he also has much stronger internals, but they don't add power, they just make sure it doesn't break....

so does port and polish help the engine? sure if you have 25K+ to throw to a "Highly qualified" engine builder, with a few spare engines cause you will undoubtevly break a couple on your way there.
