From day 1 there have been 6-cyl engines in Mustangs. It's part of the history too. If you wanna rag on a Mustang, do it to the 88hp Fox body 4-cyls.
The new 6-cyl Mustang is as quick as the Fox body 5.0's (stock), I think that deserves some respect.

What? Care to elaborate? No Mazda3 I've seen, even with MTX has crossed the 7 second line to sixty.
But I forget that you guys have a constant plague with comparing modified cars to cars that come with that performance right out of the box.
V6s have been a part of the Mustang since it was born. It's the "affordable" alternative to the V8 monsters that have been a part of Mustang history as well for the past 42 years. If you want to start arguments with "it's just a...", then go hack on the Mustang II or the pathetic 4-cylinders that were offered for a short time period. And these tanked because they didn't sell well. The V6 is the majority of Mustang sales in case nobody knew, and it's just a testament to how rightful it has a place in the Mustang line as the V8s and Cobras do.
But it's because everyone has one that a majority of you on this website think the Mustang is such a snobby, evil car.

It seems Ford has done good with the performance end of the new Mustang...as a ford enthusiast I'm satisfied.

When I see a v6 mustang on the road I think....why? Why in the world would you buy one of those in northern MN when we have snow a good 7 months out of the year? It isn't fast, doesn't look that good, rear wheel drive, handles bad, no room. I see about 10 of these things a day. Then on certain days, about 2 times a month, I see that v8 mustang and go, dang....wouldn't mind that one. I just think it is sad when my 92 non turboed talon would run with my freinds 98 v6 mustang. 2.0 liters vs. 3.8. You would think that wouldn't even be close, but it is even. I haven't seen too much of the new ones....sat in a GT and thought this isn't bad. But like people have been saying, the v6 isn't that much to brag about.

First off, there's not a single mod done to the 3. And last time I went to the track, we didn't race based on who got to 60 first. Nor did I say that the 3 would win, just that it would "give it a run for it's money". The 3 would lose by about as much as my 6 would win -- about half a second. The point was the irony that a relatively heavy, FWD 4-door hatchback with a 2.3l would even be in the same league as a RWD 4.0L 'muscle car'.
I don't have a problem with the V6 Mustang. Not at all. Just with the narcissistic attitude that the majority people who drive them have. Yeah, 76% of the Mustang market is V6s -- but 90% of that 76% think they're the hottest and fastest [censored] in the world.

But there's plenty done to your 6 and it is here in which the irony lies.

when i look at a mustang i don't see a fast car although it is kinda
i see a car with possibillitys granted alot of people don't follow through but if you were to invest in the mustang
suspesion upgrade and maby a turbo or 2 or a super charger
you would have one of the faster cars out there and still have money leftover
i can see myself buying a v8 a mustang and useing it as a weekend car or something because the gas milage would suck
as for the 4.0l v6 i know the gas mile age sucks on that
i know im dreamen but i want a car with ALOT of power but i don't wanna pay that much for gas
thats why im looking in to diesil damnit im 100% ford
but i swear my next vehicle is going to be a diesil even if i have to buy a volkswagon i think they have a diesil

exactly.....and a stock 6 runs about the same....now mod for mod the v6 stang will be faster than a 6....so comparing a modded car to a stock car is useless

My comment on the Mazda6 was based off the stock 1/4-mile times of 14.8s. Even now, the only performance mod done to my 6 is a CAI which, performance-wise, is negated by my 18" wheels, so my times haven't changed. Where's that irony you speak of?
