Hell I know people who drive 3 hours each way to work everyday. And this is just Dallas; nowhere near as bad as places like LA or Seattle, where the average person spends 5 hours a day in traffic.

I have spent 6 hours waiting for the bordr crossing to open from a bomb scare. and i was going from cali in to mexico. it was funny cuz people were out walking oaround taking their kids for a walk and just janging out. shoot we left our car, walked 3 miles to the store and came back.

Here in the bay area theres a high way called 152, which is nickednamed devils high way...its a 4 lane high way, in the hills...really tight turns...back before they put the center divided in, seperating the west and east bound lanes, i got stuck in traffic when a gas truck lost traction (rains offetn there in winter, and gets black ice)and jacked knifed and landed on its side and bloacked all 4 lanes....there were a total of about 17 accidents due to the truck...from the time i reached the traffic and the time we got passed it, it was 4 hours...from what i understand it took a total of 6 or & hours because they had to call hazmat in to clean up the fuel that was spilling out of the truck...Luckly the truck did not catch fire, but that has been the longest for me.

4.5 hours sittin' on the highway after a truck jackknifed on I-95 northbound out of Miami. Wouldn't have been that bad, but another accident on the Florida Turnpike (Ronald Reagan Turnpike) also blocked northbound traffic. Both these were in the Boynton Beach area so there was near total gridlock northbound.
I concert tickets for that night & a date with my wife, but we missed it...
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

6 hours.
It was last year and we were on our way to Oklahoma City.
It was in a stretch of Texas on I-35 where there isnt a whole lot around. Anyways a truckish van type of vehicle (couldnt recognize it when I passed it) crossed the grass median and slammed into other cars. Those who MISSED the truck crossed the grass median and slammed into our lanes cars.
I saw bodies in the road and grass with yellow sheets over them. I think there were 7 dead...it was a crime scene not and accident site so they had the highway shut down. Its pretty messed up because I had nightmares of the bodies seeping blood through their yellow covers, it can mess a person up.
The sheriff cruisers sped up (past us) to the nearest exit and started directing traffic off it. Those ahead of the exit were stuck because the Semi's couldnt do full turnarounds and so they blocked us all in.
I got some much needed sleep though.

My worst was 7 hours, in LA traffic. A fuel truck went through the center divider, and ploughed through 4 lanes of traffic, then caught on fire. The fire was so hot, part of the freeway pavement melted, and it was a concrete section, not asphalt.
Apparently the truck driver had a heart attack and lost control if the truck. I got cought up in the traffic jam at 5pm, Lanes did not reopen until around 1 am.

Back in the San Francisco earthquake, I was in a car that was just getting on to the Bay Bridge. That is the bridge that had the center section collapse. We were stuck on the bridge for 7-8 hours. It was crazy, everyone was hanging out playing catch, it was like a picnic on the highway.

I spent about 4 hrs in traffic coming home from Detroit one night. There was a very bad accident where some cars actually flew off the highway and into the trees. they had helicopters landing on the highway to take away the injured.
