In regards to the ticket being on your record, Ontario is reciprocal with New York, so the ticket will eventually end up on your New York record. And once it ends up on your NY record your insurance company will have access to it as well. They likely won't even pull your record though unless you move or get a new car.
If you were in any other State, or the offense was in any other province, you'd be perfectly fine. You just happened to pick the right combination to get screwed over.
Ummmm....He said he got the ticked in Quebec, not Ontario.

Whoops. My bad. A quick check finds that Quebec is also a province that New York shares with though. From the New York DMV site: Quote:
Out-of-State Violations. DMV does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions, except for out-of-state alcohol or drug-related violations (e.g. DUI) and moving violations committed in Quebec and Ontario. Therefore, except for violations in Ontario and Quebec, points are not added to your NYS record for out-of-state violations.â?

why not just pay the ticket and mail it in...like stated, its not going to go on your DMV record unless its alcohol related....And it will save you a hastle if your ever up in that area again and get pulled over again.
I say wait till the actual summons comes in with the price...if you "cannot" pay it then im sure you can ignore it with no problems...but don;t get pulled over in canada...and watch out for cops running your out of the country plates if you go back...cause im sure they do that like most cops.
but over all, I would accept the respnsibility of my own actions and just pay the damn thing.

I was pulled over by a canadian minivan cop about 3 years ago for turning left on a green light. $122cdn ticket. I never paid it, and it hasn't shown up on my record. NYS driver, quebec (montreal) ticket.

Also, a little trick for people(it atleast works in CA)....if you get a ticket and you HAVE to pay it, mail in payment (check or money order) and over pay by about 5 bucks....They HAVE to send you a check for the refund back...But DO NOT CASH IT....since you do not cash it, the ticket is considered un-resolved (since they still have your money) and it never makes it to your record.
Now i know it works for CA, OR, WA, and NV....But i do not know anyone who has done it in any other states.

I live in Canada, Ontario, and have received a ticket ... funny thing is it took well over a year to appear on my licence. I've signed for new insurance twice and it never came up. I've actually had my licence checked by my broker too ... so I know it wasn't on there! My wife just got her car the other month and my ticket has appeared! If this is anything to go by ... I wouldn't be too worried.

that rumor is older than the internet itself! In the off chance it does work in the states you listed, it DOES NOT work in NY. In fact, they would appreciate and "donations" you make to the NYS Treasury. The excerpt say out of state moving violations do nog go on your record EXCEPT drunk driving or ANY moving violations in montreal/quebec. Looks lik eyou're just going to have to bend over and take it man.
