The best way to relief fuel pressure is to have the inertia fuel switch to shut. All fords have one. In the contour it is locate right beside the hood bezel, on the left kick panel. Remove the trim and the insulator. Knock the switch, you will see it and probably hear it pop. You will see the red button on the top of it pop up. When it pop that mean that the fuel pump will no longer work.
Start the car and wait for it to shut by itself. Then replace your fuel filter. Press sown the red button on the switch, reintall the trims. Do 2-3 OFF-ON ignition cylces and start the car.
