alright..well here I go... '98 se 2.5 dohc, 115k, atx...
A few months back, while driving, battery light came on and everything started to dim...of course bad alternator..had it replaced, no problems for bout a month. then same thing happened again, so i took it back to the mechanic, and he replaced it for free under warranty, and said it was just a bad alt. Well, now it has happened once again. This time no battery light came on and the car went dead within 2 miles of my lights dimming...There is no waaaay that this one could have been bad when put it in. Obviously it was the mechanics quick fix by replacing the alt. and not finding out why my alt. keeps failing. Could the battery light be burnt out on my dash, not allowing the charge to get to the alternator? I checked all the fuses they are ok....Any Suggestions?????

the light on your dash has nothing to do with the charge going to your battery..
You are overdriving your alternator, purposefully, by any chance are you? (if you don't know what that means, then don't bother asking, as you probably aren't....)
Only thing that I can think of to be repetitive would be the belt causing failures (overdriven, etc) or liquid getting within the alt while being used.... Check for coolant leaks from the resevoir...

Sorry, what I meant to say about the battery light was if the bulb has to be good , in order for the signal from the bulb wire to go through to the alternator

It does't matter. If you wannaknow if the bulb is burn, put the key to ON and check if you see the batterylight, you should.

Have your battery checked. Autozone will do it for free. A weak battery can overwork, overheat, and prematurely kill an alternator. What's your charging voltage (with a working alternator)?

my battery is like new, charged 12.60... Charged it a few times today, and put it in, and it just drained rightdown... Cleaned all negative side ground connections, reinstalled and still no good volt reading while running ... Just curious , if the bulb had to be good , in order for the alt to recieve signal from wire , now that I recall the battery light does not come on when key is turned on...I read , where some alternator cicuits , require the bulb to be good to complete , the loop

I meant charging voltage with the car running. It should be between 13-15 volts. Measure it at the positive and negative battery posts. If you measure less than 13 volts, then measure again at the output post of the alternator(+) and the case of the alternator(-). If still less than 13, then alternator is bad (again?). If you now measure 13-15, then you have an open in the circuit from the alternator to the battery (maybe a blown 175 amp mega fuse).
According to the charging circuit wiring diagram, a burned out charge indicator bulb has no effect on charging.
