Can someone translate what Terry means for the less technically minded! Having been impressed with DemonSVT's previous post, I have just come back from the USA and brought with me the oil separator in kit form! I am building it tomorrow; all I thought was it fitted in between the top of the PCV valve and the upper intake? Am I not correct?

Does someone sell these already built? Also how often do you have to drain it?

Thanks

Isn't the job of the PCV valve to 1, scavenge out any oil vapors or other flamable vapors to prevent crankcase fires. 2. to help maintain a negative pressure (relative to ambient atmospheric pressure) which hepls make a pressure differential between the top and bottom of the piston. The theory being that the effectiveness of the piston rings to make a seal is partly dependent upon the pressure differential between the top and bottom of the piston.

Or is there more to it than that?

Yes. That is exactly the how & why.

Also with a properly setup PCV system you could make more power (better ring seal, less crankcase pressure behind the pistons)

This is why the system is retained. It is just now "filtered" as well.

I just emptied my tank. 1+ oz in 3 weeks(800 miles). Neglible pan loss (.5% of ~200 oz capacity)
However when you think of dumping 1 oz of oil down the intake it does seem like a lot. wink
That's like dumping a 1/2 quart of oil in every year (10k miles).

Since I drive 3000 miles a month that works out to like 4 oz a month or a quart every 6 months.
I need to get that installed, no use sitting on top of the tool box.
