Well I'm ready to spring for a new clutch. I got a 99 SVT with 70k miles and the stock clutch is shot. I don't want to get the stock clutch but I would rather get an aftermarket clutch that has proven itself worthy in other Contours. I don't want a pure racing clutch. I'm not taking it to the strip. I just want something that will have a better "grab" than the stock clutch. Keep in mind the funds are low. I'm planning on buying the clutch and having a local shop do the install.

Another question. Does anyone have any idea on how involved replacing the clutch is on an SVT? I mean, do they have to completely remove the entire transmission. I just don't want any hidden charges and I don't want to go into this blind folded. This is a lot of money for me so I want to make sure I'm getting the right part for my needs.. Thanks guys..

I have a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch in my Mystique and have been very happy. Installation was pricey though because it's something like eight hours of labor. From my understanding the tranny is not that easy to get to.

I had mine replaced by a clutch "specialist", I did the same thing, bought clutch kit and had them install it. They were the ONLY place I found that would give a warrenty on the work also. All be it for only 6 motnhs, but that was better then nothing. If you can find a shop that will give you warrenty, go there. But MOST will not (if you buy your clutch yourself that is).

It took them 9 1/2 hours to do it = $650 in labour. It's not easy. Honestly though, I believe that a "specialist" should have been able to do it alot quicker then 9 1/2 hours. So take that as the worst! (Ford's book time for a clutch job is 9 hours.)

A CEG'er called Dustyn had his tranny off in 4 1/2 hours I think he said it took. That's with 2 guys helping him also.

You basically have to drop the subframe to get the tranny off, removal of the transaxle etc so yes the entire "transmission" has to be removed.

All depends on your budget. At the time I had mine replaced, I was on a tight one too so I only got a "slightly" better clutch kit installed, Grizzly OEM from Spmotorsports.com $300. It's not bad, never had any problems with it. Feels good, grabs a little harder then stock. Now I am swapping my engine out with an SVT one I'm going to get a better clutch again. I think I have decided on the RAM Power Grip HD Clutch. For $360 and has a great reputation with the Mustang group so it can't be bad. (I can't see myself spending $500-600 on a clutch that will be too hard to drive as a daily, I don't go to the drags THAT much).

Good luck with it all.

I got a Grizzly OEM clutch from SP Motorsports. I've like it so far, defiently bites better than stock, grips better changing gears.

Can't comment on the installation costs though. My tranny was pulled for the 3rd gear syncro replacement under warranty. Had my friend at the dealership throw the clutch in while he was in there. Total cost for me $0. It's nice to have a good friend at your Ford dealership. laugh

simon simon simon no no i done it in 5-1/2 to six hours. I am not that good or neither is my crew. I think it can be done in 7 hours taken out and put back in with a lift of course. Terry haines can do it in 2-1/2 hours thats pullin it out. But thanks for the boost of the ego god knows I will need it next week when the trans goes back in. We didn't mark anything and the trans has been out for two months now. There are cob webs in the exhaust pipes. can't wait to blow them out.

Well I decided to buy the parts from SPMotorsports.. I'm gonna get the Fidanza flywheel and the Grizzly clutch. But the hardest part about this is that they won't answer their frickin phone. I have been calling all day yesterday and today and I keep getting a message that they are assisting someone else. I leave messages, send emails, send a fax and no one has called back. Are they still in existance? Does anyone know if another dealer where I can get these parts?

dude Get a ram HD from summit excellent customer service and its only 369 dollars. Get the fidanza flywheel from nippon parts out of florida and they will send you the flywheel straight from ohio. Much cheaper also they can get fidanzas for 415 shipped to your door. Spmotorsports price has went up on them. I got my flywheel in three days. I am still waiting on the clutch but ram makes a very good clutch just ask buckshot or terry haines. I have one in my mustang and I love it. I can make the cd player skip on a regular basis.
