As the topic states, I'm looking at adding nitrous to my 1997 Contour GL. Looking at the Zex universal and Venon VCN-1000. I know Venom has better safegaurds, and I know zex is easier to install. I'm wondering what others had and their opinions are? I'm looking to run a small shot (~50). What other mods need to be done to ensure safe usage? Currently my only performance mods are CTA CAI and 2.25" cat-back exhaust. Can I run a chip with nitrous? Is it beneficial to have a chip custom burned for nitrous?
I have lots of questions so any info would be helpful.

The Zex kit has been working great for me (had it about one month).
Gotta love the torque.
Installation took me about 4 hours (I'm a slow worker), start to finish... VERY easy. As for other mods to make it more safe; I put a larger fuel pump on mine (mainly because the stock pump was going out), and make sure you use only copper-core plugs, preferrably 1-2 heat stages colder than your stock plugs. If you want to use a chip with the nitrous, it MUST be programmed to leave the timing alone (or retard it if you go above 75HP shot), and should also make the car run rich at WOT. The standard performance chip programs will NOT be a good idea with nitrous... they advance the timing, and adjust a/f curves for more power (closer to lean). FWIW, the LPM in my SHO allows the computer more timing control, it runs VERY rich at WOT, and also controls a few other nice little things, such as making the engine fan come on at a lower temperature, to keep the engine running cooler.

Here's what I decided;
1) Going with the ZEX smart kit, #82011 I believe. 2) Getting a superchips flip chip a) one program for performance b) another program for nitrous 3) 50HP boost to start

I got my Zex from Harley Nace Motorsports They have good prices, and the service was pretty quick. I finally hit the track tonight with the nitrous... Here are the numbers from my best run: R/T = .614 60' = 2.358 330 = 6.307 1/8 = 9.547 MPH = 75.91 1000 = 12.318 1/4 = 14.647 MPH = 97.22 FYI.. Bandimere is about 5800 feet above sea level... NHRA altitude corrections for my time equate to a 13.64 @ 104.33! Assuming I've done my math correct, that puts my HP for my best run at about 268 fwhp. Yippee!!! Okay.. so I didn\'t do the math myself... Click Here for Car Math
