Thing is there is a certain degree of control that having a true manual transmission with a clutch gives you. There are things you can do, and especially ways that you can react when the car edges out of control that can not be done with an automatic. You can't, for instance, give a little clutch when pulling a load, or going up hill, you can't near instantaneously through it into 2nd when you need to.
Also ... from parked you cannot go FORWARD without engaging the damned REVERSE lights!!
