I have hit 2 deer. The first was in my '93 Taurus and it was a 3-point buck (3 points on each rack). It spun a 360 in midair and then seemed to run off. The drivers side headlight took some damage and it left a dent in the hood. As far as I know the deer lived, but he probably had a smashed hind leg and may have died later.
The second one was a little Bambi-type which I hit in my '89 Tempo (owned between my Taurus and my Mystique). Only a little dent in the hood of the car, but the poor deer had a much bigger dent in the middle of his back. I didn't see it the next day, so either a fish & game ranger picked it up, or it was carried off by an animal during the night. No chance it lived.
The deer have kept a good distance from the Mystique so far (knock on wood)... as though the car came with factory deer whistles.

This thread is why I'm into hunting deer out of existance as much as possible, and poisioning the rest. Those stupid, useless animals cause millions of dollars in vehicle damage a year, as well as countless injuries.

I'm sorry, but as much as I love animals, my car, and more importantly, my safety is way more important that the existance of some animal that God didn't give the sense to not stop in the middle of a highway.

I think that states are stupid to limit the number of deer one hunter can kill. Maybe if the state had to pay for the damage to the cars they'd take a different point of view.

I hit one in my parent's Intrepid a few years back doing about 80mph on the interstate. I was going fast enough that the impact didnt really move the car at all but it absolutely obliterated the right front of the car, headlight gone, tore off half the bumper cover, dented the fender and hood badly. Ended up doing about $5000 worth of damage and USAA just totalled the car. Scared the living crap out of me too. It has made me hate driving at night because Alabama seems to be dear heaven. I drive from Auburn to Birmingham quite regularly at night and last time I did I counted 57 dear grazing on the side of the road on about a 45 mile stretch of US280.
