No nothing needs to be unhooked. You'll have to reset the clock of course.
Also, do this, when you put the gauges back in, make sure the needles are in their right resting place. They can flip to max RPM & MPH real easy!
I wouldn't glue the tape, but I'd clean the surfaces with rubbing alcohol before I applied it.
