The hole for the wire is also a 1" nut for easier removal. Forget the awl, get a wrench.

Is it ever too late to start using synthetic? I purchased my car with 70K and it now has 93K and I have used regular oil but wouldn't mind starting using mobil 1. Basically am I going to have any problems such as the oil pan gasket starting to leak, ect?

Probably not. There is a lot of talk about that, but no real answers. I say go for it, I went to syn at 65, and no problems.

BTW, I use Mobil 1 every 3k, I'm going to go 5k next time and get an analysis done to see how that holds up to very agressive driving. I'll be sure to post reults.

Yeah, it's not a very good nut. It's not at all square, and doesn't want to grip well. Maybe I need to use something besides a box wrench? Eh, I usually get it with my hands.

I hope your right, 6 qts of Mobil 1 are now in. So does 6K miles sound good for changes or should it be sooner or longer?

If you don't drive hard, 7500 should be ok. Someone ran an analysis at 7500 in their SVT and it was still good. If you run it hard, do a lot of driving in heavy traffic, drive in dust a lot, or something else abusive, then maybe go 5k or less. I've been going 3k, And since I just cleaned my UIM the cheater way, and did an auto-x, I'm going to change it at 3k. Then I'll go 5k and get an analysis on that oil, to see if it's ok.

Did these all the time when i worked at Valvoline Instant Oil Change.....basically its a product you add to your oil (b4 draining it) run your engine w/ it in there for about 5-10 mins, drain it, pour fresh oil in untill the oil coming out is no longer black and it is actually very close to the color of the fresh oil your putting in (translucent), put in plug, fill up w/ oil, the end.

W/ a good syn, if you have ALWYAS used it for the life of the car then you really shouldn;t need to do it very often at all...maybe once every 5 oil changes if you want to be very critical about it.




Question about doing the flush. I've done the do it your self flushes where you run it for 5-10 minutes at idele, drain it out, and fill er up with new oil. Can you use cheappy off brand type oils to complete the flush (pouring it through, so to speak). Dumping through two quarts or so of 5.00 a pice sytehtic seems a bit pricey... maybe thats why oil change places charge so much?? Enlighten me!
