Hey guys, quick but stupid(?) question:
is the K&N air filter for the 2.5L a conical shaped filter or rectangular?

I've heard that if conical shaped filters get wet, they're pretty much junk...is this true with these?

thanks,

Brian

There is a standard shaped K&N and a conical. In order to install the conical you will need an adapter or kit. I went to the local speed shop and picked up an adapter plate for my V6 for about $15. The conical is a little noisier (albeit a COOL kind of noisy) and it will give you a constant CEL, but you'll notice the added punch. In my opinion the conical is the way to go. It's also not much more expensive.

I was planning on ordering online...any good recommendations on places to buy the filter and adapter?

EDIT: Anyone have the Part No. for it? (conical) and what is a CEL?

A conical will NOT give you a CEL (when added with the proper adapter).

 Yes, I sorta rigged my conical. That's why I get the CEL. I just left the sensor unplugged and hanging.

I believe that is not so good for the engine. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, dammit! How the hell do I rig the sensor back into the system? I removed the whole filter box. mad I personally don't see how that's going to hurt anything, but I'm open to critisizm from anyone who knows what they're talking about! laugh

K&N, you folks still using that... confused

I would suggest trying out my line of AFE Filters they flow much better than any K&N hands down and on a 2000 SVT mostly stock except for a BAT inlet pipe made almost a MAX of 8hp@wheels and a average peak of 4hp@wheels. There's a thread here in the performance Forum on the Filter, if you haven't seen it go take a look. wink

Brada what you should do is KOOL IT!!! Shifty probably doesn't refer to the car apparently

First of all What Sensor? I'm gonna assume the IAT sensor for explanation purposes.
If you removed the IAT sensor, not a good idea. For one IAT stands for Intake Air Temperature and it's sole purpose is to calculate air temperature. The sensor helps the PCM determine spark timing and air/fuel ratio.
