Here is my K&N setup in my svt. The stock screen is included inbetween the adapter and MAF to smooth out air flow. I will be working on a heat shield to complete the kit. I still have to talk to the machinest about the adapter to see if marketing this custom K&N kit is possible. Here are the pics:

Let me know what you think, as from the pics, you can see I am trying some different things. I trimmed the stock intake tube, and glued the cone from the stock fitler onto the k&N to attept to better direct the cold air over the filter. It is quieter this way, but seems to work better.

Looks good. Did it do anything for your engine?

Well obviously it breathes a lot better now and has a lot better throttle response. I don't have to step on the gas near as much as I did before to get it to go. It took me a little to adjust to it, I had to learn not to give it as much gas as I did before....so I didn't speed in town.....but these are all good "problems" wink

Firstly let me say that you've got a nice intake setup there. Nice work.

But I don't understand how this statement could be true: "The stock screen is included inbetween the adapter and MAFto smooth out air flow "

It seems to me that the stock screen (or any screen, for that matter) would do just the opposite. Am I missing something...other than the screen? wink

I'm a bit confused by this step... did you cut the stock SVT paper filter to go inside the fender duct??? I see by your pics that it is glued to the fender duct, but you had a capped K&N filter shown which wouldn't draw anything unless modified... confused confused confused

Ok, first of all, the screen does smooth out the air flow. I don't really know how to explain it, but the "experts" say that the screen is nessecary for max hp and flow. I'm sure there is a thread on it somewhere in here. Its been talked about a lot. Second of all....I cut only the cone off of the stock filter and glued it on the capped k&n. I did this to minimize turbulence, because instead of the air slamming into the capped end of the filter, the cone helps to dicipate it around the fitler, to flow over it and keep it cooler. I didn't want an inverted or non capped filter, because they don't flow as well because air coming in the end and on the sides causes turbulence, even though there is greater surface area. Again, the point of the cone on the end is to help direct the incoming cold air around the filter to keep it cool.

Stock screen is needed or else you get turbulance that the MAF doesn't like. Lean or rich, depending on the mood of the MAF.

For $5 you can get a gasket from BAT to use with your stock screen and MAF adapter. Exactly what I'm doing.

Thanks chris.....I didn't feel like waiting for the $5 piece, so I just cut the rubber off the stock one and it fit perfect in between the adapter and MAF with a little "right stuff" sealer. Not the best way to do it...but it works fine...Jason....i'm looking forward to seeing your 3.0 again sometime this summer wink
