You have to understand that on the Duratec a TON of oil is pumped into the heads, so you won't see crank sloshing. In fact think it was SHO Shop that made a pan with a window in it and at around 5000rpm, with 5.8qts of oil in the engine the pan was almost empty!!! That's why they added and extra oil drain in the 3.0L to speed up the oil return to the pan.

When I build up my 2.5L I'm putting in an etra accumulator in the cabin air filter location for sure!

BTW, I run 6 full qts of oil.

It simple. Buy six quarts, drain the oil. Than put the six that you just bought in. Viola six quarts of oil exactly . Plus maybe a little extra thats in the heads, bonus. Don't worry a "how to" is on the way .

ok, i take my car to a decent shop for oil changes. would they be putting in oil to the Max line or the recommended 6 quarts? im not into changing my own oil but i will if it means the difference between saving my engine or not. or, i guess i could pay the shop extra to put more in.
so, hopefully this is not a dumb question, but would a typical shop be doing 5 or 6?
also, im sure this has been discussed a billion times but this thread is open, is there a "good oil" to run or is basic stuff good. id put optimal stuff in if it would help a daily spirited driver like i put Redline tranny fluid in.
anyone?

oh yeah, regarding my other question too regarding oil accumulator and redesigned oil pan too.

Go to Walmart or whatever and buy the Mobil One syth., get 6 quarts. Next go to the oil change place and tell them to use all 6 quarts no matter what. Honestly it was faster for me to do an oil change and I didn't even have a garage.

does the turbo require extra oil versus a non-turbo 2.5 duratec??

secondly, could you pull your dipstick to read where 6qts reads on your stick....when i did my oil change a few months ago, i filled it to the max line and cant remem if it was 5 or 6 i put in.

If you go to a quick lube shop, etc, and just ask for "an oil change", they will simply look up your car in the system.. to get the suggested weight of oil, and then proceed to add 5 quarts.

You must state USE 6 QTS!!!! and even then, watch them through the window, or whatever, and WATCH ALL SIX GO IN....

I run 6.5, and I change it myself 95% of the time

Re: suggested oil

5W-30 for the duratec... Mobil 1 (dino or synthetic are always a toss up around these boards.. Though I prefer synthetic for its abilty to protect for longer periods..)

cool, thanks Ray. ive got a hook up for Mobil 1 so i guess ill start doing my own oil changes. doesnt the synthetic also allow you to go longer periods in between changes? anyone have a figure on that?

also, has anyone here used the redesigned oil pan that BAT sells? is this sufficient as opposed to using the costly accumulator?

oil pan "helps" accumulator "helps".. neither is a cure-all.. by itself, at least.

As stated in the same post, I prefer synthetic because it provides adequate protection for longer periods.

re: figures on synthetic longevity.
BITOG site for all oil info you could ever want..

just read the SVT manual under "capacities" and it says it takes 5.8 qts which is roughly 6 anyway...so why the huge debate of running 6 or 6.5. it already has 6 in it if you fill it to the max line. Highly doubt a mere 1/2 quart is going to do ALOT to save your engine.

Im putting in close to 5 qts after the car is drained. After all not all of the oil is ever completely drained when doing an oil change. So in your thoery I am probably close to the 5.8 when I add 5 new qts of mobil 1. I also know..that putting in too much oil will destroy your motor as well. I check my oil every week just as I have always doen for 25 years..and have yet to fall short of a max line.
