it stores extra oil. when the oil pressure drops, it adds the extra oil into the system to prevent oil starvation.

I've got the 1.5 qt. Moroso it's 10" long and 4.5" in diameter. Right now it looks like I'm 1:Selling or returning it 2: removing the washer resevoir and mounting to the inner fender 3: exchanging for 3qt and mounting in trunk or 4: exploring the possiblity of removing the cabin filter and placing in the cowl region.

I would move the battery to the trunk, but if I do that I have to replace the struts right away (H&R w/ stock struts previous owner's doing not mine) because the tires already like to rub when hitting any moderate bump or accelerating too quickly, and that's with the trunk and back seat empty. Struts are on my repair list, but I won't be able to afford them until at least May.

Couple other questions.

I don't plan on racing this car, just a spirited driver. That being said, should I really worry about having the accumulator? If I return it, I have half the money for the struts, but I don't want to take any chances on loosing the motor. Thoughts please>>>

Second question, am I correct in my understanding that the plugged hole, next to the oil pressure idiot light sending unit, is the best place to hook into the system without getting a remote oil filter??

How many people have lost their engine, even though they weren't "a racer"?

It is a design flaw in the engine.. not a circumstantial flaw of the driver. (though driving in a different style CAN change the odds.... technically...)

either don't take long sweeping turns to the right, at least not with the revs anywhere near 3.5 or higher...

or install the accusump/etc, and run more oil...

Couldn't have said it better.

I didn't race my car even thought the previous owner did and I was happy to have the accumulator. It's just peace of mind, I knew the engine wasn't going to throw a bearing and it was nice to know.

So do I need to run more oil with an Accusump? Or does it hold oil that would otherwise be in the pan?

You run the normal 6 qts. plus the size of amount needed for the accumulator. Just make sure to empty both the engine and accumulator when doing a change.

you can buy an Accusump brand accumulator kit through BAT. I bought my Moroso brand as components through Summit (I had a bunch of discounts so it cost me less.) The Moroso is 1.5 qts where as the Accusump is 1qt.

If you remove the cabin filter, an accumulator fits perfectly under the cowl and there is a drain hole into the inner wheel well that the hose can be routed through to get it to the motor without drilling any new holes.
