Did anyone else here who bought their cars new, as I did, have expectations or hopes at the time for a slightly better resale market on these cars?
Does anyone have any hope for increasing appreciation as the rest of the world finally catches on and attrition takes its toll in numbers?
Probably not any time soon, huh?
They may be the best used performance car value out there. Even with their quirks.

Planning on a higher resale is your first mistake.

Cars are not investments. You should always go into buying a car completely understanding you will not see that money again.

as much as ceg'ers appreciate these cars, at the end of the day they are not in the same category (appreciation wise that is)yet as late '60s early '70s muscle cars. maybe some day, but in 2005 they are still too new. give em another 6 to 10 years.....then maybe.

otherwise, just enjoy your time with your svt! know it is unique. know all the mods you have done to it. know you can blow the doors off many of the in vogue imports today. and stop hoping to make money on your car. unlikely to happen!

I'll agree.

Cobra's seemed to hold their value a bit better and I expected this when I bought my CSVT in '99.

All cars depreciate, just didn't assume these would be beaten so hard, especially after Ford killed the platform.

Can't complain about the reliability though. With a few minor warranty repairs mine has been flawless.

Even though I have a Mystique, instead of a CVST, I expected resale values to hold up a lot better. Before I bought my Mystique (new), I seriously considered a Honda Civic Sedan. The sticker prices were close to the same. Now, when I check the trade-in values of my car verses the same Civic I would have bought, I'm sick. American cars are a good value ONLY if you buy them as used cars two to four years old, when they have taken the depreciation hit. Otherwise, unless you plan to drive them until the wheels fall off, most domestic cars suck when it comes to resale value. The most notable exception is the Corvette.

Cars as an investment? Where'd that come from? I don't expect to make money on the car. I'm just disappointed by the extremely poor resale value. And I thought it would do better. Lighten up.

You know, you can look at some of the profiles on some of the posters on this site with phrases like 'I drive it like I stole it' and all the rest and so can you honestly say that you'd expect a better resale value on cars that have obviously been, and I'll stop short of saying abused and just say, driven spiritedly? Not saying that everyone abuses, er, drives spiritedly but people tend to know which cars are performers and which ones are grocery getters.

That's a load of bunk.

Resale values for cars are based on supply and demand. There's a tonne of Contours (thank to fleet purchasers and low domestic pricing) and not a whole lot of demand for them. CSVT's are not known commonly so they are not sought after, thus lessening demand. You have a glut of cars that are cheap, rightly associated with being unreliable, a headache, and a domestic or Ford.

Corolla's are beat on on a daily basis by people who don't give a [censored] about those cars. Women drivers run them without checking or changing the oil for 25,000+ km's, they dont' change the tires, they smoke in those cars, they mash the accelerators and mash the brakes with dead pads, and the toyota's still have the best resale values around ? Why ? Cause people want them.

That's why they're so cheap, face it, nobody wants these cars. I dont' even want mine anymore. I'm so [censored] fed up with it. When I bought the CSVT, I didn't expect to get the money back, but I didn't expect to start selling it so [censored] soon, and I definately didn't expect to have to put up with this much [censored] from a domestic. It's imports or GM for me from now on. Ford can suck a cock for all I care.
