You roll the bat and lever it up off the wheel, to push the metal tab away from the tire. The metal tab you're trying to manipulate is located towards the back of the rear wheel wells, RIGHT where the bumper lines up with the fender. You don't have to roll the car or jump around the back seat nor grind anything.
