This UTEP was in Clermont-Ferrand, France, just South of the Blaise Pascal Institute. Modest campus, terrible cafeteria food, but a fair amount to do and see nearby.

Actually, most of the folks outside the college were quite nice and tolerable. Many of the people in the more rural areas of France were a joy to interface with. I ran into a cherry orchard one time, chatted a few of the locals up and ended up taking a sack of cherries back to the dorm with me, free of charge.

Step inside a major city, though and it was like stepping on the moon. Lens, Nice, Paris, Leon, Marseille; I rarely had a truely pleasant encounter with people unless they were foreigners like myself.
