They have a University of Texas El Paso in France too? I also studied a semester at Hanover Universitat as an exchange student. I loved Germany, but hated France(total snobs to Americans). My exchange partner told me he would only go with me if I told everyone was Swedish. The Frenchies were so arrogant that they didn't realize I was speaking "Pig Swedish" like the chef on The Muppet Show.

This UTEP was in Clermont-Ferrand, France, just South of the Blaise Pascal Institute. Modest campus, terrible cafeteria food, but a fair amount to do and see nearby.
Actually, most of the folks outside the college were quite nice and tolerable. Many of the people in the more rural areas of France were a joy to interface with. I ran into a cherry orchard one time, chatted a few of the locals up and ended up taking a sack of cherries back to the dorm with me, free of charge.
Step inside a major city, though and it was like stepping on the moon. Lens, Nice, Paris, Leon, Marseille; I rarely had a truely pleasant encounter with people unless they were foreigners like myself.
