I agree with everything you mentioned EXCEPT this. Have you ever contacted your insurance agent to learn the difference they charge between LX/GL/SE Contours and the SVT?

My Ins Co charges $13 more per month for the SVT. Worth every penny IMHO.

I was also looking at the Jetta, but the SVT costs half as much and is far more car, although I think the Jetta would be more durable. The downside is when you go to sell it, and it will then be worth 1/3 of a comparable Jetta.

I think you get more bang for the buck with the svt. I used to be a vw guy, clubs etc. Reliability and body rust becomes an issue as vw's get older. Ford seems to have better paint hold up. They do respond to mods well, and there are tons of aftermarket parts. The svt is more rare as well, so there is the 'what is that' factor. At least they are rare up here. I've only seen 2 others on the hw in the last 6 months, and that is in a town of over a million.

With just under 11,000 made they would be considered fairly rare.. yes..

Considering the new SRT-8 300C is going to
"have people standing in very long lines, with only 10,000 a year being made", I can't see how THAT is going to be exclusive, or rare, and the SVTC wouldn't be.

My insurance for my SVT came out cheaper than the insurance I was paying on my old SE. Go figure. Also, I don't think it's fair to say that these cars have tranny problems. For the most part, the only people who have tranny problems are the ones who beat on their cars and the ones who buy cars that were previously beat on. I have had two contours, and both were driven hard consistantly and not a single problem with the tranny.

Why ask why?

If you mean technical reasons, then it is because of more aggresive extrude honing,(and other reasons) and a bump in CR (though I am not, honestly, sure that the bump in CR benefitted the HP, or was just a compensation for having to lower the CC's a tad..)

Anyone wanna let me know?

Ray
