I disagree 110%.
Laptops get stolen more often than desktops, are less powerfull (thus less future proof) and are less reliable (which if they break all require model specific parts). Almost everyone I know who has a laptop primarially just lets it sit on their desk, so much for portability, especially when it weighs 9lbs and has poor battery life (as almost all "desktop replacement" models do). Heck I have a laptop in addition to my desktop, and the desktop takes up less space on my desk with the LCD.
