Spend $1000 each on the desktop and lap then spend the rest on a wireless network for the two. You'll have two nice system and versatility ta boot. Don't put all your eggs in one basket and don't waste two grand on a notebook unless you have a plan that needs such a beast. You'll be happier with both.
