That is about right. Numbers I gave were power gains at peak power which is usually also the peak gains, though solid gains seen across the rev range. Hard to say eactly what the big K&N does vs stock. In my run ofcourse it was combined with 75mm MAF and smoothed airtube vs stock combined to add 12 HP. Ive seen 2 dynos for small (OEM size) without the airbox ..both made 5HP. Ive seen KKM make 5 HP but Ive seen it make 0 HP as well. Bobby Knauber compared KKM vs Monster Flow and KKM was about 3 HP better (IIRC). Monster Flow was 1 or 2 better than stock. Mine is 2 better than KKM. So, big K&N may add up to about 6-7 HP vs stock but that is sort of a rough estimate.
Dan Trust me when I tell you the Filter will easily outflow any K&N, there's no question about it. AFE used Precision Pleat Geometry to optimize airflow and is engineered to control maximum filter face air velocity with deep precision pleats. K&N uses shorter pleats and is really choking the air, in otherwords it's limited in it's design. AFE Filter is a velocity stack which means it has a rounded exit into the the intake stream for a smooth transition allowing for less turbulence unlike K&N which is flat and can create turbulence. The Filter is also housed in 100% Polyurethane which allows the filter to never distort or break it's seal over time unlike the competition which use basically a rubber that can over time distort. My 8" Filter is lighter than my KKM so weight was also a factor in the design as well. A reputable Race Shop referred me to AFE because after numerous testing on there in house engine dyno, the AFE simply outdid the competition. AFE's abilities are more prominent the higher the hp get's. wink

Like they say FOLKS, 'Change is HARD but it's always due to come!' K&N and similar products have always and still are good products, AFE has just entered the market determined to channge the way Filters are designed. A number of AFE employees were originally with K&N but when AFE set out to build a better product some of thes faithfuls followed inline.

If you decide to try the Filter you won't be disappointed...Aloha, Micah wink
