I was just curious if any of you techies out there could explain to me what exactly goes on when one "torques" their engine. I was just curious why the engine makes a sound when torqued and what is making the sound and why it's bad to do it do an engine. Thanks a bunch for anyone that can help out.

Maybe you could find a sentence you saw it used wher eyou didn't know what they meant. That would make it a lot easier to explain.

Has anyone come up with an answer to this question yet? I'm also curious.

What is it to torque an engine?

Do you mean brake torquing? Like what airplanes do at the end of the runway before rolling for take-off? Brake on while the engine is on full revs.

The things which I can see going wrong are, brake wear or engine wear (the groan or moan sound) from higher revs. Well, maybe not brake wear since the wheels are not turning (the pads might fall off though ).

"Brake Torquing A procedure generally used in performance tests to improve the off-the-line acceleration of a car equipped with an automatic transmission. It is executed by firmly depressing the brake with the left foot, applying the throttle with the car in gear to increase engine rpm, then releasing the brakes. Brake torquing is particularly effective with turbo charged cars because it helps overcome turbo lag."

Unless yours is a turbo CSVT or ATX SVT , you probably don't want to have anything to do with brake torquing.

I heard someone say that u torque the engine when the rpms are too low. say for instance you're driving in 5th gear and the rpms are at 1500.

Is that something that anyone is familiar with? i just didn't have a clue what the guy was talking about so i wanted to see if you guys know about this.
