Yeah, my original point was just to prove that in the world of "tuner" cars and higher performance vehicles, the SVT Contour really isn't that bad.

I mean, with a H.O. V6, I'm not expecting great mileage and therefore aren't disappointed.

However, if I had a 2.0L 4 banger, I would EXPECT way better than 25 mpg highway. Especially if it had 6 forward gears!!!

I only get about 20-23 mpg in mixed city/highway in the 'tour.

As a comparison, my 1588cc 1991 Isuzu of the same power density (82 hp/L), gets 25 mpg combined city/highway. Not much better, but at least it uses 87 octane fuel.

kbb.com confirms those numbers:

EPA Estimated Miles Per Gallon:
SVT w/2.0L Zetec Engine: City 21; Hwy 25

That is sure low for 4 cyl, hwy number is worse mileage than the regular contour w/V-6 (or even a taurus!). And you gotta buy premium and drive that ugly car to boot. Even my wife's Windstar w/3.8L has hwy rating of 23 mpg!!!

The non-svt mileage is about the same as the contour which means it is not the shape of the car:

EPA Estimated Miles Per Gallon:
ZX3 w/2.0L Zetec Engine & Manual Trans.: City 25; Hwy 34

I find the epa numbers to be pretty accurate...in all the various vehicles I have drivien, I always get about 1/2 way between the city and hwy numbers in my normal day-to-day suburban driving and about the highway number or a bit higher (depends on speed, I think) for freeway driving.

hey kerry

Good to see someone else from victoria on this board. I usually don't post on this one but since i got into contours i love this site.

I am in the super coupe club for western canada, i have had a couple t-birds, and now have a 5.0 im selling (don't like it) next car i want is an SVT contour or a new SVT focus but they are a little much. Plus the focus will drop in price over the first few years alot. I'd rather get a deal on a contour. How many of them are in vic i have seen a few most of them silver.

I have seen some from 18 000 to 24 000. How much are they worth??? And do u know of any for sale in vic??

Thanks

Ray

PS i work at Mr Lube at douglas/saanach if u ever wanna bring the SVT by

Ever since I bought my 95 tour gl mtx used, I have experienced well above average fuel economy. With the exception of a broken spark plug, I have gotten between 30-41 mpg on the freeway, yes I did say 41mpg! That was the rare exception, seeing that I have yet to match that rate. I was able to clear almost 550 miles on a tank of gas with some to spare! I also am what 'others' would call an agressive driver, with constant hard acceleration, i.e. chirping 2nd gear. All of this and I now have almost 160,000 miles on the stock clutch and tranny.

My relatively stock '99 SE V6 MTX Tour gets very good mileage (over what the EPA and window sticker said anyway). She usually runs 24-25 MPG in the city and 32 MPG at 85 MPH in fifth gear, which is about 3700 RPM for me. I'm sure it might actually get better than that if I knock off 5 MPH. I'm definitely happy with mine.

25mpg Hwy? confused I wonder if the EPA even knows the SVT Focus has a 6-speed wink

On a side note, I've been logging my CSVT mileage from day 1. Here's the totals to date:

TOTAL MILEAGE: 33,426

TOTAL GALLONS: 1,282.67

AVG PRICE/GALLON: $1.54

TOTAL SPENT ON FUEL: $1,948.56

MILES PER GALLON: 26.06
