In most cases you are correct, however the bat filter has a diffuser built into the reverse cone end and is designed to have air pushed dirrectly in the reverse cone end. Anyway, my eventual plan is to build an airbox around the filter (not this one but probably a larger one) and feed fresh air to the airbox.
