Really, I heard the exact opposite from a Hyundai owner .....<removed>..... it is a 97 btw .....
You are talking about an 8 year difference in model years. How could you compare a 97 accent/elantra to a 2004/2005 Sonata? A few things have changed in those years, most notably, the length of the warrantee, and hyundais place in the quality rankings.

No it is not!!! The engine and atx rebuild was on my daughter's 95 Contour. I just picked up a new unused spoiler that is the same color as the car for a good price and installed it. She loves her car. The interior is pumice with wood grain dash that I added. Looks rich! Best investment I ever made....keeps her from wanting a new one ------ instead I get the new one

Very true! The hyundai's have come a long way. The 2005 Sonata I purchased is the LX model. Looks very very nice and quality is excellent. Doors close with a solid stiff feel. If quality owns up to what Consumer Reports says, this will be the best car I ever owned. I post some pics soon.
Can you imagine how much different ownership of a Contour would be if the Contour's came with 10 year or 100,000 mile warranty and 5 year bumper to bumper!!!!!!!!

If the contour did have a 100,000 mile warranty, it wouldnt be needed, car is too reliable I'm just going with what I hear about Hyundai, personal opinions from owners, if the company doesnt have a strong line of reliability, then I'm not gunna trust them right away. Sure the car runs fine while its new, Most cars run great while new. Ill reconsider 6-8 years later. Depending on how well they hold themselves up, and how Hyundai will find any reason to terminate the warranty. Ford has been a reliable company to our family. I own a good one, my brother owns a good ford Truck, my dad owns a Ford truck that runs very well, My mom owns a 94 Escort thats never been in the shop, grandmother owns a 95 thunderbird which also is great, and has never been in shop for engine/car problems directly. With that said, I'm going to keep Ford as my first choice always. Why goto something else when one product performs well?

"The 2005 Sonata I purchased is the LX model" btrautman btrautman, owning a new car I am just curious but do you plan to add an external filter to the tranny and power steering lines and possibly add an atx cooler based on your experience with the CD4E and besides adding an additional cooler or filter to the atx if one does not exist is something that taxi and limo companies do all the time.
What other contour ownership issues can would you apply to the ownership of this new car?

With a Powertrain 100,000 mile or 10 year warranty I won't be touching the tranny! If I install external filter or cooler I'm sure it would void my warranty....Now when it is past 100,000 mile that is another story........
I did purchase new a 1998 Ford F150 which I had no problems with. To me it seems that Ford is better with manufacturing trucks than cars........

I bet a 1995 Hyundai "wonder car" would have been worse.
They do nothing for me.

I agree with you! From what I have read the older Hyundai's had terriable quality, etc. but since then they have come a long way....Consumer Reports ratings are rather impressive.

Checking out my engine V6 2.7L in detail, I realize the following.....
1. Alternator, power steering pump, a/c compressor are all in the exact same position as the contour. The drive belt routes exactly the same as a contour including tensioner.
2. Much more room in engine bay. Alternator has about 7 inches of space behind it to remove it, vastly different than the contour.
3. Fitings on power steering pump, etc. are better quality.
4. Thermostat is in the same location
5. Ignition moduel is located on front passenger side of engine compared to up against the firewall on Contour.
6. This car will be a piece of cake to work on when it ages.....
