Before accepting that the in-dash guage is correct and that you do have a problem with elevataed operating temperatures, you should check the actual temperature with an external device such as an IR thermomenter.

The in-dash guage and sending units are not very precise. I've seen a lot of car owners panic over high readings when the temp was fine, but the guage was wrong.
