Let's hug and sing songs of love and grace! This is an Auto Enthusiasts board, not Martha Stewart Living!!! I think that anyway anyone wants to respond is fine. If I have to dig through insults, cursing and belches (not that I have to) that would be fine, as long as I can find good and accurate info. Just because these cars are "Family Cars" does not mean that we are "Fragile and Emotional" people. No offence to anyone, but I like to dig through "Colorful" responses such as Terry's. If you don't then you may want to check the Dodge Caravan home page! laugh

I agree, I don't expect this to be a Martha Stewart tea party. However, I don't expect to experience quasi personal attacks.

I play a computer expert during my day job, and I can never get away with just telling the customer, it's just that way. I constantly have to justify my position to my customers. I never mind when a customer disagrees with me, and it happens on occassion. I present my position, and why I believe it is the right course of action, and the customer can take it or leave it.

Now I realise that what we have here is a free advice forum, so you get what you pay for.

All I ask is if you disagree with me, the give me some credit for some basic intelligence and ability to learn. I may be ignorant of all of the details, but I am able to learn.

That's all I ask, and I will grant others the same courtesy.

This is directed at no-one particular, as I simply love to learn. I learn 0 (ZERO) when anyone tells me that they are the expert and that is the way it is.

However, I realise that it often takes time to fully develop a position. Fine, tell me that, and offer to educate at your convenience. I (as well as others) are here to learn more about the cars we are enthusiastic about.

Aw, crap!

Will this cause problems other than potential speedo gear slippage?

It's been like this for 1 1/2 years and I've never had any speedo problems. Wonder if the tech did something to keep it from slipping?

I wish you were closer, Terry. Four day drive, minimum, one-way...

I won't be at SZ, couldn't justify the $1000 cost for 2-3 days of fun. I'd rather get a new suspension, not that I can afford that right now either. We're getting ready to buy a house this fall.

FWIW MOST techs dont notice the difference, its only if you put the old gear on the diff and check if its locked do you realise that it can spin, the bearing maybe holding yours & others but as I said the diff(Quaife ) is machined to early Zetec trans specs hence the half moon cut outs.I assure you all when I first started dealing with Quaife,in UK,I asked this question..reagrds TH

Well after all mine tranny wase 1st (upgraded HMS US version MTX75) with a Quaife fitted Am I right Terry?
I should mention that HMS work very close with Quaife on the fitting of the LSD on which I remember they send his an Email mentioning that this particular unit was build for the MTX75 for tha Focus.and the answer was to weld the spyder gear to the unit which ofcourse Terry discard that method and after comparing the 2 spyder gear (focus and cougar) He track down part numbers and resolve the problem and created a new method of fitting a Quaife LSD which should be patent by HMS,

About the hostility of some of Terrys post don't take it personal. He is one of the nicest persons I know. As some one mention here it may sound rude but talking to him in person is a blast and a leaning experience.

Look, I didn't post to stir up any $h!t, but now I have to say that Terry's rude and snide remarks are downright offensive, and he really shouldn't belittle anyone's workmanship or knowledge like that.

As far as the speedo ring goes, I DID have half moon cutouts on my ORIGINAL speedo gear, and it DID lock into place on the quaife. I even checked it before installing and it doesn't spin independantly from the Quaife. I have never had speedo problems, nor do I now. Just for a reference, I would like to say that my Quaife does not look the same as in Lance's photo. Here is a pic, to illustrate my point:
As you can see, at the "bottom" of the casing, where the speedo ring would reside, there are two half moon cutouts opposite of each other. That is where my original V-6 speedo snaps in, without modification, or spinning. I am quite certain of the fitment as I made sure to properly align the tabs with the cutouts.

Terry, I really don't care if you don't believe be. I think people put way to much faith in you and while usually you are right, it doesn't justify rudeness or treating fellow members like children. Hiding behind the excuse that its your "dry Brit humour" is a pi$$ poor one at that. I have known many an englishman, and none are as brash nor as rude as you have been.

I have finished my rant, and flame all you want, but there is no excuse for speaking in such a way to anyone.

That being said, let it be known that I hold no grudge, ill will, or spite towards Terry, or anyone else on this group. However, when one refers to me in such a way, I cannot stand silent.

Wasn't someone saying something about direct personal attacks? If we keep up this bickering back and forth, I will have my first 3 page topic and maybe my first Moderator Locked post as well. I am so damn excited.
J-Lab, if you don't like Terry or his humor/insults/whatever, there is always Caravan.org. I hear Wings West makes a nice "Grocery Cart" spoiler for them now.

What was the date you got it?

Not that it really matters, but I guess someone really should have "official bragging rights" wink - David has had his "forever"
