What a pile of garbage!

Back when I had my 97 GSX, the S-AFC was the way to go and MANY people acheived excellent results, including roadRaceEngineering.com and ExtremeMotorsports.com

The S-AFC does NOTHING to the timing, it has ZERO controll over it. The old ITC does, and yes if you don't know what you're doing you can blow a motor with it.

The only way you'll screw up an engine with a S-AFC is if you're a moron and lean it out too much but not knowing how to tune it properly.
