Pretty broad statement. A modded dsm I know here uses an AFC. Back in albany, almost all the fast hondas used it. I'm not saying a custom program isn't the right way, but just saying that's a broad statement.
Yes I know a AFC "can work, and has worked". But read around, and you'll see what I mean. Some car's (DSM's) can get away with it more than others, a sensitive knock sensor helps, and since there allready boosted, chances are the injector size change is less drastic, there for the ignition advance is less drastic. Read up on HondaTech and homemadeturbo.com, they all exsplain why AFC's are so bad.
I also know a DSMer with a AFC, but he also has a data logger, he's loosing a lot of power because of the ECM freaking out from the knock, caused by the high ignition timing from the AFC hack.
