Uhm, acutally yeah... Stock one didn't work and would slip at operating temp. Rendering my speed-o useless. Major PITA to find one that fits Originally posted by ScottK97SEMTX: Originally posted by Terry Haines: J-lab..then you must have been blind that day!..The Quaife has two semi-circular cut outs that are the locators for a ZETEC speedo gear NOT a V6 gear which has NO cut outs. The V6 gear fits over the Quafe fine but IT SLIPS and does not give a sold speedo drive...call Quaife..the MTX diff is based on the Zetec MTX...Call Ford..the Zetec MTX and V6 speedo gears are NOT the same...and yes, you dont know what the hell you are talking about!!! Any chance they modified the Quaife with the price drops? Guessing the early units were more likely destined for V6's, but when they dropped the price for the increased zetec mfg volume would they have tweaked it for that? Just a guess, but I don't remember David Z or Lance or anyone mentioning the need for new speedo gears.
Anyway - since I've never even seen quaife obvioulsy just a guess.........

While Terry is a "unique" individual, I think that his responses to the previous post have been very tame. If anyone were to attack me on subjects that I am an expert on, I would have reacted a lot more harshly. He has been invaluable to me recently. He was not only the supplier of my Quaife, but the one who helped me with all the information that goes along with it. He also dealt with my impatience (and lack of cultured tastes) very well. So thanks Terry!

Huh, no one attacked him if I recall.
All J-Lab said was that he used the stock v6 gears, and it worked for him. I think the inquisitive tone he used showed he was open to contructive comments. May not be optimal, but I can attest it is working to this day.
Point beeing the "BS" and "Rubbish" comments are often uncalled for. Guess some people need to belittle others to feel important and knowledgeable...

Using the V6 speedo gear is a 'bodge' job when the Quaife needs the Zetec gear..for $5 when you pay over $500 for the Quaife.....makes no sense to me.....

mangler, trying to successfully determine someone's intended tone from written text is almost impossible. I'm not saying "inquisitive" wasn't the tone intended, but not everyone will see it that way.
On the same note, Terry's comments may be intended as humorous, but you or I or someone else may not see it that way.
Can you tell that I'm not trying to be a d!ck?
Food for thought.

I think everyone needs to switch to decaf, or have some of that scotch that's being discussed here. :p

Terry, I am not saying your info is incorrect. (Or that someone should use the stock gears instead of the Zetec ones, which seem to provide a superior install).
It's the way it was said I thought was harsh.
D Davis, I said inquisitive because he was asking questions and not offering a blanket statement. Hence the question marks...

Food for thought. Good point D Davis. You have to keep something in mind, Terry is from the other side of the pond...and you know how it is with those brits and their dry humor :p In all honesty, Terry is a great guy, he may come off a little standoffish on the internet in written form, but give him a call sometimes and you'll see that this perceived attitude over the internet fades quickly. I also second the idea that some CEG members need to start drinking some decaf. There is something about the beginning of each month that brings out the bitchy side of the board, and I thought we were mostly a male dominated board :p
