Hey guys, I've been looking and reading up on 8" subs that can be used for infinate baffle. I think I've narrowed it down to two. The first... Dayton 8 seems pretty good. I found out about it through a past post (yaayyyy searching works ) It seems perfect, but the Qts is 0.40, which I've read is a bit on the lower side of what is desired. The other, Apex Jr. 8 has the better Qts of 0.514. However, it has a x-max of 4.9???? I quess I'm just not understanding the significance here. So, my question is, which should I get? And, are there any others I should consider? Thanks

I'd probably get either a Koda 8 - www.adireaudio.com or Kicker 8" L5/L7 (if you can find one for cheap).

The Xmax on the Apex is way too low. I'd get a minimum of 10mm for a single 8" rear deck sub. The Dayton would probably work well.

How about the Tang Band W8Q? It's an 8x12" sub with a 12mm Xmax. Maybe Dave can post some ideas on compensating for its somewhat low Qts??? I'd be very interested in hearing them as I was thinking of using a pair of these in the rear deck of my MSP....

I have actually been considering that for some time. I even went out to my car, which is in storage 4 miles down the road, to make sure it'll fit on the rear deck. But like you said, the qts is really low. If not mistaken, that'll really hurt sound quality, and that's exactly what I don't want to do. The purpose for this is to give some low end. Thanks for the thoughts.. I'll look into that Koda 8.

Low Qts won't hurt SQ in the least. I would recommend having some sort of Eq available if you use it, even if it's an adjustable bass boost on the woofer.

Remember, to really get the most out of an IB sub, you will need to get a good seal between front and back. If you drop one of your seats down, you won't have bass. If you don't seal off the seat area, you will have bass, but it won't be as strong as one of the boxed options. If you do seal it off well, then you can have very very good sounding bass.

After doing some reading, I think an Audiocontrol Epicenter might be the ticket for using the TB sub. Its got some nice EQ functions for adjusting the bass levels at different frequencies. Plus, its got a remote bass control to adjust the volume of the sub.

Thanks for the replies. As for EQ, I have an amp/sub control on my deck. It's a Clarion DXZ735MP. It's seperate and has it's own control. It has quite a bit of features. One last thing, how about the older Rockford Punch series 8" woofers? I can get this for $25

That is another one to consider.
