Can you tell anything by just looking at the oil? I always feel there is a lot of crud in my Mobil 1 after 3-4k, but I guess that's subjective. How much does an analysis cost? I really would like to see 3 more years out of the 'tour, so I've really started treating her very nicely, especially since this is my third engine...

I think the problem is they can't find anyone willing to put amsoil in their engine for the tests..

I did notice the price of a 5 quart jug of the regular stuff was $19.95 while the "new" stuff was like $23 or so.

Check it regularly and change it when it gets dirty,
i've found that even with a 99% filtration oil filter
i still need to change my moble 1 or castrol syntec oil every 3 thousand miles or so.
