1. It only feels that way. Trust me, there's a "Shiftronic" in the family from the very same people that supply the one for that Tiburon and it's in the Optima out in the driveway. There's no computer enhancements or increased throttle response when you shift over into the manual gate. It's just a better grasp on things rather than the "PRND2L" deal.

2. It still makes you switch. I dunno about you, but when I'm driving a manual, I want to switch the gears when I feel like it, not when some computer tells me to.

yeah but the clutch hassle sucks in the city also the tiburon has more mod potential than the contour ever had

i love the contour but i don't have the svt which is what i want and i already own 3 contours so im all done with getting another you know there outdated.

as far as the tiburon i thought it was a great car yes the engine has a ton of plastic covering but so do most v6 and up newer cars today all you do is unbolt it and remove no big deal

still would love a 2000 svt contour but that will never happen

Outdated? If you say so...*shrug*. I also agree that the auto-shift is a waste of time. Drove a late model Maxima with it, and the computer blocks out any gear changes that the automatic programming wouldn't do itself. It's a novelty that is there to make it seem like that $30K+ car is really worth the money.

Now of course, an automatic transmission is not a waste of time, but most people on here are very biased. They want you to have to replace a clutch and be in their misery. Hopefully a Tiburon clutch job isn't as bad as a Contour. Get what you feel comfortable with.

I like driving a stick shift, but I don't see where these people keep pulling better gas mileage out of nowhere from. Automatics are incredibly advanced today. Can't say much about a Hyundai, but I imagine it's pretty durable itself. There is nothing wrong with a slushbox. You still drive the car, you still feel the car (Electronic controls are one thing I advise against though) and you still get good gas mileage, acceleration, and durability. If you ever injure your left knee, it will thank you for not being forced to depress a clutch. Why so much ATX hate anyways? What, you forgot to change your fluid for 100K miles and then switched it and left your hydraulics in shambles? Not the ATX's fault.

i love my mtx except i live in the city and its a [censored]
also its not that smooth on everyday driving

my gf atx contour we drive more than mine for this reason

i'll stll have a contour just not a manual one but a V6 ATX and i will continue to mod it

You have a V-6 ATX now, and if it's properly running, you know what fun it is - despite the folks who may like ATX. Are you going to race it regularly? Are you gonna put in on the auto-x circuit regularly? If not, don't worry about it.

Just imagine the V-6 in your Contique stuffed into a much lighter platform. Yahoo! Heat issues? Tranny cooler & a 160 degree t-stat & you're in business.

The only issue that would change my opinion is the typical reliability rating. If it's not good, let it pass. If it's a reliable car, then:

Enjoy the Tibby!

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I have a 2004 XG350L, it is a great vehicle. I only wish they would squeeze that 3+ into the Tib that would be AWESOME!.

I do have the ATX, tiptronic and yes it is the same as the Audi. I have played with it both ways and there is a definite pull difference on the lower end. It will of course, keep you from crippling it. But other than low end take off there is not much advantage (IMO)

The only to-do I would say is a must is the Hyundai in general does not respond/handle extremely well with diving into a turn (contour much better). Tighten/ stiffen the front end a bit if your running a lot of turns.

I would buy another in a heart beat, I think they are one of the best values on the market. Super easy to mod, and work on. Take the plastic off if you prefer.

its prolly like those audi's that have the triptonic. THey arent cool, delayed timing when changing the gear. Try to find MTX

My buddy has a 2000 Elclipse GTS with a sport tronic trans. Its truly an atx, and I dont like the way the sport tronic works at all. Just get a manual I say.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.
