Anyone ever tried to fix an IMRC? My 96 says its stuck closed with a code. I pulled the cover and ran 12 volts to the actuating motor and it opened and closed fine. Is it the circut board that goes bad? I really dont want to spend the money for a new one. Junk yards wont take it off a good motor. Can it be fixed? Where does the demand come from to open and close it? TPS? RPMs?

The PCM won't open it before 3000rpm. You have to have a positive TPS send to the PCM and the rpm have to increase.

The 95 year model, and only are vacuum control, so check for any vacuum leak.

Nic.

Its not that Hard to fix, just annoying.

I replaced my box and cable on the old SVT. Its just a matter of remembering where the wire was running thru, and then snaking your arms / hands under the throttle body.

If you are mechanically inclined, you can do it.

Alright, so you verified the motor works with 12V..

good.. now verify that the board is TRANSMITTING said 12V to the motor when it receives it via the incoming connection to the board (or that you are even GETTING 12V to the IMRC box itself.

use a multimeter and test to see if you have a 12V signal at one of the pins going into the IMRC when above the secondary opening point.. Since the motor works, I am thinking that you may not be receiving the correct signal in the first place..

Let us know what happened, and we can see where to go from there.

I was wondering the same thing, I've been getting a p1518 code. on one of the cougar sites, someone mentioned he'd taken his apart, cleaned and lubed the gears, glued the motor in place, and that his is now working again. has anyone else had luck repairing rather than replacing?

BTW, fordparts.com has them for sale at $98.23 instead of $161.70

Think the internals from this will work for the Contour?
