No problem with the lightened flywheel. You will find that it will engine brake quicker, due to less flywheel inretia. The bonus, it revs as quick as a motorbike - well at least closer to one. Like I've always said "it feels like a 30 shot of nitrous"

I had a stage 2 and a fidanza on my turbo neon and it seriously helped, not worth the effort unless your pulling the tranny anyway.

cool cant wait to get one then!
is it much extra work to get a LSD fitted at the same time as getting the clutch and flywheel done?
mines a Manual transmission BTW

Well seeing that you need to pull the trans to do the clutch and flywheel. You may aswell do the LSD. Only difference is that you need to open up the transmission to do the LSD.

Actually the SPEC is not the same as a Fidanza. A SPEC is balanced and lightened in comparison. (balanced to a SPEC clutch kit)
SPEC uses grade 10 titanium hardware and weighs under 8lbs on a digital scale. Neither of which a Fidanza has.
SPEC most likely uses their own flywheel face & hardware and just gets the billet flywheel shell from Fidanza.
I know when talking to SPEC they told me they assemble their own flywheels to meet their "specs".
A SPEC flywheel was a no brainer to me after learning all that information. (I bought the Stage 1+ and flywheel together of course)

When I bought my Spec clutch...they were out of spec flys...I contacted Spec...they told me to contact Fidanza because they get the flys from them! This was last year. Dave from SP says the same thing.

Well after I droped off my Trany to Terry Haines, he suggested Fidanza with the SVT Clutch. Terry said he just Fidanza has a better track record and for the clutch they are a Ford part and they have the exact specs and for the mods I have the SVT will work out great.

I have accounts with BOTH Fidanza and SPEC. The flywheel situation is kinda touchy around this board, however this is how it goes: SPEC purchases SOME flywheels from Fidanza. However, they do additional machining in-house once they recieve them. If your still interested in a flywheel, let me know. I'll help you out with an really nice price.

BILLET ALUMINUM SPEC billet aluminum flywheels are also CNC machined and exceed SFI standards for high stress racing applications. These units are recommended for highly modified street or racing vehicles, and for mildly modified street cars that can benefit from reduced rotating mass without the loss of daily drivability. Consult a SPEC technical assistant for recommendations on your specific needs. The body of the flywheel is made of tempered aluminums, either 6061 T6 or 2024 T3, for ultimate strength and lightest possible weight. The 1/4 inch thick friction plate is a 1050 high carbon alloy, for incredible durability with any friction disc material, even iron. The plates are secured to the body by aerospace fasteners or stainless steel rivets, depending on the application. These fasteners were chosen because of their exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. The ring gears are pressed on and secured with grade 10 fasteners. They gear is also heat treated for longevity. They are effective, durable and almost too pretty to install.!

Our aluminum flywheels are made from the highest quality 6061 T6 aluminum. The material is fantastic for strength, heat dissipation and of course reduction in weight. The friction surface we use is an incredibly strong 1050 steel. The plates are milled to meet our high specifications. A Fidanza flywheel can mate with any type of clutch material, including organic, kevlar, ceramic, metallic and sintered iron. We attach the friction surface with military grade aerospace fasteners. The ring gears we use are also made from 1050 steel and are heat treated for durability. The gears are heated then pressed on and secured with grade 8 button screws. We were the first to utilize a stepped dowel system in most of our flywheel applications. This doweling method ensures that once the pressure plate is installed the dowels cannot be removed because they become locked into place. Fidanza designs and builds flywheels with extreme precision. We give tuners, racers and builders the high performance and unmatched power theyre seeking.
