Well folks, keep me in your prayers!

I'm flying to Texas tomorrow to pick up my high mile ebay SVT and drive her back.

A CSVT and 1,000 miles of interstate, what more can you ask for? (mabe a radar detector?)

I made contact with the PO, who had traded the car in on a pickup at a Mazda dealership. Car had engine rebuild at 50K due to cracked rod, tranny last year, AC compressor last year. The guy had extended warranty and used the heck out of it, but was a little spooked when the warranty ended at 100K, and he bailed. I figure it should have a couple good years in it. We'll see if I fall in love with it on the "honeymoon" drive home.

Well, everything went pretty well.

1021 miles in one day! No oil used and no CEL.

Averaged 26.5 MPG with a high of 28.5 and low of 24.5. The 28.5 segment did have a tailwind. I was cruising about 80 most of the time.

The car is a blast! it has more torque that any of the other SVT's I drove and revs right to the hard cut off. It handles like it is on rails and is a joy to drive.

BIG JIM mentioned that the contour was more refined than the SHO it replaces, that is certainly true. Much more poise and less wind noise too.

Since I was home early, I took it through emissions today (which involves an code scan and gas cap test) and it passed. It then set a code a couple hours later.
Could the scan trip a code?

Only bad surprise is the clear coat on the black paint has "crows feet" and I have one headlight and one taillight full of water I need to search for fixes to drain and seal the lights I guess.

All in all the car is great and I am very happy I went with the 2000 CSVT.

Very close to what I get. I get around 27 on the highway at 85mph, about 22-24 in the city. Plenty of economy for me. I've seen 32mpg before from some point in Wyoming to halfway thru South Dakota, probly due to me going downhill.

Couldn't you just pull the lights out remove bulb socket and drain the water. Check the fixture for cracks and check to see if the little rubber seal around the buld is in good shape...

It isn't that easy. It sits in the inner plastic relector (the one ppl paint). I'm pretty sure it's impossible (I've tried) to get it out by removing bulbs only. Either get some heat on it (making sure the vents aren't plugged) or disassemble the light or give it to me and you get a new one

Well, while you take it apart to remove the water, paint it... then do the other one to match...

don't know if the scan can trip a code, but I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. my car had been code-free, then took it in for its first emissions test, and a week later, it threw its first code, which was p0401.

contours, deloreans & fiats, oh my!
