My 1998 Owner's Manual specifies ATF that meets Mercon specs for the MTX. For those that want to try a synthetic ATF, Mobil 1 meets Mercon specs.
Many have tried the transmission "cocktail" described in the FAQ's. That formula uses Mobil 1 ATF with 2 oz of Ford Friction Modifier. The addition of the friction modifier improves shift quality dramatically.
Personally, I use the Chrysler spec ATF+3 non synthetic which already has friction modifier in the formulation. It works wonderfully for me.
