Drove to Washington state from the bay area. About 1000 miles in each direction and more trips to socal than I care to remember. I too have noticed that I get better gas mileage at 80-85 than I do at 70. I got 31 mpg on my last trip to socal and I was averaging 85-90 mph. This on I-5 where everyone is going at least that speed so no flames for the speed.
