I was just banned from tripod for only uploading images(and not making a site) would the same thing happen with geocities?

geocities won't allow remote linking, and you'll also get banned. I didn't find a free service that I was satisfied with. ofoto.com and shutterfly.com are free but they are geared more towards photo printing than photo hosting. Personally I use fotki.com . They are more like the now-defunct PhotoPoint. They have a free service, but it's not as extensive as their paid service.

ClubPhoto.com Free image hosting, but they delete your images after 3 months unless you have a paid account...guess it's their way of trying to make you become a paying member.

I use http://photos.yahoo.com I believe you may have to have a yahoo account to set it up, but anyone can then look at them. Setting up a yahoo account is no biggie. Just put in bogus info to get the account. What's nice is that if other people have a yahoo account, they can view the pics in hi-res, versus medium res for non-yahoo people. example: http://photos.yahoo.com/thethingsido They give ya 30MB, which is tons of space... You can add captions, arrange them in any given order, create sub-folders, etc...
