I was wondering now that the warmer weather is coming, would it be a good I dea to make a heat sheild for my KKM? I've heard that you lose perfomance if its hot and you don't have a heat shield. Also Could I use the stock air box and cut the one side off and use that as a heat shield? Thanks in advance!

Jerry

Will the KKM filter fit in the old airbox if I cut off the side and leave the top off of course?
Where could I get the Miks one?

I've directed John this way to give more details about the heat shield...he is extremely busy right now so I'm not sure if he'll be able to make one or not. Stand by. laugh

Here is an update from the numbers using the OBDII realtime on the IAT. With the shield in place, the IAT was 20 degrees cooler with the hood closed! Car was up to operating temp..shield off the IAT was 122F...shield on the IAT was 102F. I have yet to take a look at on the road/driving numbers. Those will come shortly.
<-snip->
Here is the info that I have. Allthough the numbers aren't astronomical, they do prove that a shield will dramatically reduce heat soak. I have measured a 50 degree F difference from the outside of the heat shield to the other side of the shield at the filter (KKM). It definitely aids in blocking the air the fans will blow into the intake as well.
Here are some numbers besides the temps.
Pics are here: http://photos.yahoo.com/jc_aimhigher You can also see it on the NECO site: http://www.newcougar.org
<-->
Chris A.'s car:
with the shield and hood closed: 164.0hp and 147.2lb/tq
with the shield and hood open: 166.6hp and 147.8lb/tq
Blake's car:
hmmm....hood open = 164.3 hp / 144.5 lb. ft.
hood closed = 160.4 hp / 141.6 lb. ft.
Both of these cars were built in the same month. They are both silver SVTs.

That looks good. Nice work. How difficult is it to install? And how difficult is it to secure, so it stays in place?

Danny, I just ordered mine from John, it's pretty damn simple to install. Just unhook the filter from the adapter by unscrewing the clamp, fit the shield over the filter, and reinstall. It's a nice, tight fit, so, nothing to secure, just makesure you've clamped the filter on the adapter tightly.
