My worse injury happened about a year ago. I was cutting firewood and got tired. So I pulled up a lawn chair (next to the pile) and cut the logs while sitting. This was working OK for a while, but my loose-fitting trousers got a bit close to the blade. It pulled my leg right into the chainsaw blade as if it was a yoyo. Unfortunately, I had just dowsed the blade with bar-and-chain oil. The cut was much the same shape as a quarter-moon. I crawled around on the ground, picking up leaves, and searching for any piece of flesh that I might be able to bring with me to the emergency room.

Unfortunately, my wife was in the shower and the kids were sleeping, as this was early Saturday morning. So I knocked on the front door, got my wife out of the shower, and asked for a big beach towel to wrap around my leg to stop the bleeding. Once I did that, I got in my car (a stick shift) and drove to the emergency room. [Yes, I got behind some slow drivers!] I spent a long time there, while the doctor cut away tissue and cleaned out the oil from the wound.

When I was fixed up, I had twelve stitches. The doctor told me to see my primary care physician immediately on Monday morning. However, when I went there, the receptionist told me they couldnt possibly see me for two weeks. I went to work, but a few days later, my leg swelled up and became infected. Fortunately, the guy in the office down from mine directs the Physicians assessment program and could give me medical advice. He looked at my leg and told me to elevate it and see my doctor immediately. I eventually got on some antibiotics and all was well.

But for a while, I was seriously concerned about loosing my leg (e.g., loss of feeling, swelling, etc).

Heres how it looked, after getting some antibiotics (much better, actually).
