Hi,

Do you guys know about a prepaid cell plan (GSM) where I don't have to buy their phone to get started ?

My brother is going to come to the states for 3 weeks, he has his european phone, he'll have to call / be called from US numbers while being here and the roaming/int'l costs would kill them if they used his home provider/number.

A $50 prepaid plan would be perfect for him, if they let him use his existing phone.
Anybody know about such a plan ?

Thanks,
Tiv

Call Cingular. I THINK they have prepaid SIMs.

Know what kind of phone he has?

Europe and America use different frequencies.

America is 850/1900MHz
Europe is 900/1800MHz

I have a Samsung phone that is a dual band 900/1900MHz, which is the most popular frequencies used. A lot are tri band with any 3 of those, and new Mortorola (like the Razer) are quad band and use all 4.

If they've got a 900/1800 or a single band of either of those, it won't work here.
