I have an idea... Why not play stupid until you are about to make the trade? Make sure the check is bunk before the car actually leaves your posession, and then when you go to give them the car (you'd have to arrange for a personal meeting or delivery), make a citizens' arrest!
And I bet you get emails so fast because they have bots on the boards that immediately inform them of new items for sale...
