What I am wondering is why not try to burn the scammer?

Obviously the check is tied to a checking account - and obviously one with NOT enough money in it to cover $5000

Why not take it to a check cashing place - get slammed with the fee but get a load of cash and have the check bounce back to the scammer and he gets an overdraft fee?

Anyone ever try anything like this?

I have an idea... Why not play stupid until you are about to make the trade? Make sure the check is bunk before the car actually leaves your posession, and then when you go to give them the car (you'd have to arrange for a personal meeting or delivery), make a citizens' arrest!

And I bet you get emails so fast because they have bots on the boards that immediately inform them of new items for sale...

that idea wouldn't work because i did something like that once before and they don't even meet up with you.. in my case they insisted wire transfer be done back to them immediately, to satisfy their customer yadayada and that they would arrange shipping afterwards. they don't care for the car, just your $2500 or so that you send back.

i say just delete the email

Then they will get away with pulling it someone else! It's a tired old tactic, they ought to be punished just for insulting peoples' intelligence with such an outdated method.

Isn't there some way to set up a monitored transfer and track their IP addresses, or their routing numbers, or something?

The FBI or BBB could not possibly approve of this kind of repeating crap right under their noses!

I have sent seven seperate pm's and emails on CEG site classified listings. Not one response, although I did get a call back from a cell message I left. I think there may be no faith left in the integrity of the CEG classifieds, or else everybody is just to dang busy to sell something.

Either way this whole scam business has popped up a number of times in a short period, makes me just as nervous buying as it would selling.

Is there a way to regulate who gets access to the classifieds. Like maybe require people to log in. It might slow down the problems.
