I noticed after installing my CTA Intake that the intake pipe gets pretty darn hot in my Zetec engine compartment. When I was driving back from Canada (Spent the weekend in Niagara Falls smile ), I noticed that the hood STEAMED from the rain on it. Now, I also noticed that it did this once before I installed the intake before the winter when it rained. Although, the temperature gauge never really goes past the "R", or the middle of the "M" in extreme conditions. Actually, it seems to run cooler now with the intake on. Is there any way I can combat this excessive heat in the engine bay? I've heard about removing the "Hood liner" but I don't have a liner under my hood, just all metal. Are you talking about the plastic/rubber piece that you can easily take off, closest to the windshield?

Any suggestions would be welcome! Thanks guys! cool cool

No, the hood liner is like a thick mat/carpet that covers the entire underneath of the hood. You are talking about weather striping that runs from side to side (right to left) at the top of the hood.

But a number of people on this BB have removed that WS with no probem of water getting in. They have even gone as far as to raise the rear of the hood (near the windshield) a little for more air circulation. I'd try it but not until I see a pretty good How-To. frown

Ok, anything BUT that smile I don't think I'd be able to spend $100+ on my hood, let alone justify that with the girlfriend smile

Use Thermo Tec on the intake to keep it cool.
No problems with removing the Hood liner or the Weather stripping. Dont think you'll get to much of an improvment raising the Hood as mentioned. But I do know other that have raised it.
You can try running an aluminum pipe directing cold air at the intake. (Not sure if you have the Cold Air Intake or just an open air filter).
If you have the cold air intake, check out my homepage under mods.

So that means that the previous owner removed this? Or did the 98+ Contours not come with a hood liner? If the previous owner removed it, I feel much better about being the second owner of this car smile

In response, I have the CTA Aluminum Intake pipe with a conical mass air flow filter.

What's that Thermo Tec stuff? Where do I get it, and how do I apply it?

To my knowledge, 98's+ did not have the hood liner. I know that mine doesn't and I have read others on this board in regards to hood liners that say that 98+ didn't have hood liners.

My SVT had it too.. But I don't think Zetecs or SEs had them in the 98.5+ models.

Something you might want to look into is this:

I was going to do it awhile back, but never got around to it. Would be curious to see how it works out, if you decide to go this route.
